Rock Steady

“The ground on which you stand, will determine how you will live your life and handle the situations that come at you.” P. Eddie

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Matthew 7:24-27

  • JESUS IS OUR FOUNDATION
      1. If you want this year to be one of your best years yet…Jesus has to be the foundation to all that you do
        1. We can all agree that Jesus was a good human being
          1. Treat others like he would
          2. Love others like he would
          3. See the world like he would
          4. See others like he would
        2. But we need to take it a step forward:
          1. Trust him with our lives
          2. Guide us to eternity
          3. Come into a deep relationship with God
      2. This has to be personal to you
        1. Who is Jesus to you?
        2. We must have a personal encounter with Jesus
        3. My job will always be to convince you that Jesus is God and that He is for you
        4. We may guide you to the door, but it us to you to take a leap of faith into the unknown

  • YOU MUST HAVE A REVELATION OF WHO JESUS IS LIKE PETER DID.
  • 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”  14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John,[e] because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’),and upon this rock, I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

      1. This revelation:
        1. Allows the blessings from heaven to come into your life
        2. Gives you power
        3. Gives you access to the Kingdom of God
        4. Having this relation sets you up to see and experience the world in a different level
      2. When you have this revelation, your sight changes:
        1. I was blind but now I see
        2. The world has now different colors and sceneries that I was not exposed to it before
        3. Maybe all we can focus is on ourselves, but when you come into contact with Jesus…your sight gets wider and deeper
          1. Life stops being just about me and becomes about us and them…and WE

  • YOU CAN’T JUST KNOW ABOUT WHAT JESUS SAYS…YOU HAVE TO LIVE IT
      1. We must strive to not just know him but to OBEY HIM
        1. This is where we lose the crowd…this is a response time
      2. Listening to life-changing words and not obeying them make you a FOOL
      3. There are a lot of fools walking around this planet…
        1. We have fools leading us and telling us how we should live our lives
        2. We have a lot of fools telling us how we should feel
        3. We have a lot of fools governing us
      4. For God, obedience has always been a big deal.
        1. He is our creator…I think he knows better

  • He knows better so he gives us this illustration and shows us…
  • IT IS NOT “IF” THINGS HAPPEN…ITS WHEN IT HAPPENS

    1. There are events in our life that we cannot avoid
      1. The storms will come
      2. The rain will come
      3. The floods will come
      4. The winds will come
    2. Being a follower of Jesus Christ is one of the most dangerous and uncomfortable thing you can do
      1. It will make you go against the current at all times
      2. People act a fool and now you are expected to act different
      3. At times, it will cost you friends, family, and people you love
      4. It will make you leave your dreams behind for a cause
      5. It can cause you emotional and physical pain
      6. The disciples were hung, beheaded, crucified, burned and killed
      7. Jesus was tortured, mocked and crucified
      8. Yet we want a gospel full of blessings, flowers, victories, and parties…the reality is oh so different!
    3. The big difference is:
      1. That we are not alone
      2. It will not kill it
      3. That Jesus has overcome the world
      4. That there are promises and hopes we can grab onto
      5. Even though we may not understand, we have the OPTION to BELIEVE that God is for us
    4. Life may want to knock you down, but our foundation will always push us to get back up
      1. How we are grounded matters
      2. What we chose to believe matters
      3. What we decide to make our foundation matter
      4. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR FOUNDATION TO BE SHAPED BY:
        1. Fear
        2. Doubt
        3. Hurt
        4. Disappointment
        5. Abuse
        6. Sadness
        7. Anxiety
        8. People
        9. Events
      1. Let your foundation be on:
        1. Jesus
        2. The Messiah
        3. The savior
        4. The Good God
        5. The provider
        6. The healer
        7. The one that knows me
        8. The one that wont leave me
        9. The one that wont give up on me
